eBRT2030 in key discussions on electrified urban mobility

In the past month the eBRT2030 project has been presented in key discussions around electrified urban mobility. On 2 October, the project was presented during the CIVITAS Forum, the flagship event of the CIVITAS Initiative discussing innovation in sustainable mobility. eBRT2030 was featured in the session titled ‘Charging Ahead: Electrifying Urban Mobility’ where the IMC trolleybus BRT system, MetroMare in Rimini, Italy was highlighted.

Discussions during the session touched on technical challenges of electrifying bus operations but also the future, including future innovations for BRT systems. The importance of scalability, accessibility, and sustainability in achieving Europe’s ambitious climate targets were all emphasised when looking at the future role of electric BRT in public transport systems.

eBRT2030 was also part of the presentation by the MOBI Electromobility Research Centre (VUB, technical coordinator of the project), of their tutorial on Modular Digital Twin Platform for Electrical Drivetrains at the 2024 IEEE-PEMC 2024 Conference in Prague. The tutorial covered offline drivetrain component modeling and control design as well as online real-time condition monitoring and lifetime estimation techniques. The full tutorial presentation is available on the eBRT2030 website library under ‘Presentations’ here.

eBRT2030 was presented during the last ITS World Congress in Dubai, on 16 September during the session ”Achieving zero emission mobility: Focusing on e-buses of the future”. The event connects the realms of mobility, technology, and innovation. Bringing together experts, policymakers, and key figures from both the industry and academia to advance the field of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).

Finally, as a part of the European Mobility Week, the annual initiative of the European Commission for Sustainable Urban Mobility, the project joined a discussion (online) organised by the city of Taranto on 17 September on sustainable mobility and BRT. The city is part of the Future BRT cities User Group, and it is finalising its project of a new innovative electric BRT.
